What makes Naxos a budget-friendly destination? Or not?

On our trip through Greece, Naxos was one of the more affordable islands. I found a cheaper hotel right by a gorgeous beach and nearby restaurants were also reasonable. There's a public bus system so that you can get around for just 2 Euros, and a lot of the sights around the main town are also free.
